Fred Herzog. Street Photography

26 Jan 2013 - 28 Apr 2013

The Glenbow Museum, Calgary

Since the 1950s, Fred Herzog has photographed the street life of Vancouver and other cities, often shooting hundreds of rolls of film a year. He would wander the streets looking for the unexpected events that define city life. For the most part, he did not pose people but photographed his subjects unaware, seeking out unusual scenes and spontaneous gestures.  At a time when “serious” photographers used only black and-white film, Herzog used Kodachrome slide film to capture his subject matter in full colour.

Fred Herzog, Street Photographyincludes 28 photographs. By using recent technologies, Herzog has captured not only the original Kodachrome “glow” of his original imagery, but a genuine sense of the times.
