If the Weather Permits, winner of the prestigious Prix Claude-Jutra du meilleur espoir de l’année, screening at the NGC

Ottawa, Canada - March 5, 2004

Si le temps le permet, gagnant du prix Claude-Jutra du meilleur espoir de l’année, est présenté au MBAC
The National Gallery of Canada is pleased to announce that the documentary If the Weather Permits by Elisapie Isaac, winner of the prestigious Prix Claude-Jutra du meilleur espoir de l’année, is presently being screened at the Gallery until May 2nd. This 28-minute documentary is playing continuously at the entrance to the Inuit Art galleries and presented in conjunction with NGC’s exhibition Every Picture Tells a Story by Josie Papialuk, and in collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada.

In the vastness of Nunavik, on the edge of the Arctic Ocean, lies the village of Kangirsujuaq, where tradition and modernity intersect. The young filmmaker Elisapie Isaac asks, Can Inuit culture survive in the modern world? To bridge the growing gap between the young and the old, she lets Naalak, an elder, and Danny, a young policeman, tell us what they think.

Free admission.
