The National Gallery of Canada Foundation announces the creation of the Pratt & Whitney Canada Fund for the Publication of Vernissage

Ottawa - September 6, 2006

The National Gallery of Canada is proud to unveil a new design of its quarterly magazine, Vernissage. In support of this new design, the National Gallery of Canada Foundation is pleased that Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp., a United Technologies Corp. company, has chosen to partner with the National Gallery and its Foundation to create the Pratt & Whitney Canada Fund for the Publication of Vernissage.

This new fund will ensure that this magazine continues the exciting work of making Canadian art and the National Gallery's collection known to all Canadians, beginning with the launch of the brand new design. As an important resource, Vernissage endeavours to create and satisfy a significant community of like-minded readers enthusiastic about all aspects of the visual arts.

"The Vernissage magazine is a vehicle for the National Gallery to reach out to Canadians by providing them with meaningful information about themselves, as well as their country and the world, through the visual arts," says Pierre Théberge, Director of the National Gallery of Canada. "I would like to thank Pratt & Whitney Canada for their support of the National Gallery and the Canadian visual arts community as demonstrated through the creation of this fund."

"This partnership between our institution and Pratt & Whitney Canada is a concrete example of the successful blending of public support and private philanthropy which enables the National Gallery of Canada to preserve and interpret Canada's rich visual arts heritage," says Marie Claire Morin, President and CEO of the National Gallery of Canada Foundation.

"Pratt & Whitney Canada is very proud to be partnering with the National Gallery and its Foundation for the new release of Vernissage. This partnership is exactly in line with our objective to encourage the art sector. It will contribute to leverage the Canadian art and the National Gallery's collection across Canada," says Alain M. Bellemare, President of Pratt & Whitney Canada.

Published since 1998, Vernissage presents information-rich and engaging content of Canadian and international art to a widely varied national and international audience - recognizing that they look to the National Gallery as Canada's authoritative voice on the visual art experience. A trade magazine with a growing advertising and subscription base of 15,000 in circulation, it is distributed both nationally and internationally.
