The permanence of an ink-jet print depends on the materials used and the storage conditions. Both the supporting layer and the ink making up the image are important. Stable papers are chemically neutral and "buffered" to withstand small amounts of acidic chemicals. Stable inks do not fade in light or under normal atmospheric conditions. Ink-jet prints can be more stable than traditional chromogenic (colour) prints.
