American Man Ray's "Rayographs" developed from his childhood experiments using sunlight to make photograms of leaves. This image shows his mature technique. It was made in his darkroom in Paris. Man Ray moved light around three-dimensional objects placed on light-sensitive paper. Some of the objects were transparent. The paper recorded the outlines, shadows and refraction patterns with varying degrees of density, depending on the exposure time. |
