Between 1843 and 1853, Englishwoman Anna Atkins issued a set of scientific books called Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions. She produced a very small number of copies and circulated them privately. Atkins illustrated the books with cyanotypes. A cyanotype uses paper coated with iron compounds. It takes its name from the rich blue tone the exposed paper turns when developed in water. |
