"Available light" is a term that describes photography without flash or other artificial lighting. The light is often low. For centuries, painters and photographers have lit their scenes with light coming through a window. It has a different quality from artificial light. The angle at which the light falls on the figure in this image reveals certain details and obscures others, establishing a mood.
