Light behaves in certain predictable ways. Societies around the world have observed its behaviour and responded to it for millennia. The ability to project light images was first noted by the Chinese more than 2500 years ago. Later scholars described the same phenomenon. Devices were eventually invented to improve the images. Some of these devices led to photography.
