GET INVOLVED
Learn about the programs and resources on offer to teachers and students at the Gallery. You can even get involved and help shape these programs and resources by joining our Teacher advisory committee!
Teacher's Information Evening
Each fall, the Gallery hosts an information evening for teachers. Find out about tours and workshops designed specifically for students and teachers, in-class resources we offer to support your curriculum, get a glimpse of current exhibitions, and find out about upcoming exhibitions. All this takes place in a casual, social setting. Meet up with colleagues, get inspired, and ease into the school year! Our next information evening will take place in October 2008.
Teacher Advisory Committee
Help us remain responsive to the needs of your students. Teachers on our advisory committee provide feedback on existing programs and resources, and give advice regarding the development of new programs and resources for teachers and students. Committee members also assist us in determining effective strategies for sharing our services and resources with teachers locally, and across Canada through CyberMuse. Professional Development for Teachers
Both the National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography offer professional development workshops for in-service teachers at the elementary and secondary levels, within the national capital region, either at your school or at the Gallery. Topics include:
- artworks and the curriculum: making connections;
- active observation and discussion of artworks;
- in-gallery activities and exercises to promote visual literacy and skill development;
- practical, hands-on, in-studio sessions (techniques, materials);
- identification of teaching resources and ways to support art education in the classroom; and,
- introduction to CyberMuse, the Gallery's online educational tool.
