Houle has written that The Place Where God Lives is an homage to Manitoba's Aboriginal name, Manitowabah: "According to mythology, the original name Manitowabah was a place in Northern Manitoba where the water ebbs and flows over porous limestone rock creating a muffled sound. Legend was that the sound was created by Gods playing the drums."
