Throughout history, bulls have had symbolic associations with strength, potency and virility. In ancient Greece they were even used to symbolically represent Zeus, the mythical god of gods. The bull was and is praised and feared for its ferocity, strength and tenacity. This can be seen in the continuing tradition of the bullfights in Spain, the running of the bulls in Pamplona, as well as the continuing popularity of the rodeo in North America where bull riding is seen as the most dangerous of all the competitions. The bull, for these reasons and others, has been a popular subject throughout history from ancient wall relief's to artists like Goya, Picasso, and Francis Bacon.
