Coats of arms are heraldic emblems; in past centuries they were hereditary and used as a means to identify an individual's familial allegiances as well as to establish identity in battle. The heraldic emblem Coat of Arms with a Lion and a Cock, has never been attributed to a specific family, it has been proposed that it is simply a product of Dürer's imagination.
