Western Dancer

Western Dancer,
Fafard, Joe
patinated bronze
196.5 x 262 x 65 cm

Western Dancer is modeled after the Selle Francais a large-boned thoroughbred horse originating in France. Fafard's patina reflects the characteristics of the breed its dark chestnut brown colour fading to almost black around the face, lower legs and tail. The patina rests atop the finely detailed sculpture in which small lines have been etched. Fafard further enhances the life-like nature of the object by tracing veins on the face and body. While modeled on a particular breed of horse, Western Dancer is a fictional character developed by Fafard. Three sculptures were made in this edition, however each is unique with distinct names and patinas.
