Contrary to his other port scenes, this one shows a space enclosed in smoke or a brownish dust that prevents the eye from travelling farther back, drawing the observer's attention back to the foreground. The high-angle view and angular perspective, more common at that time in photography than in painting, create a dynamic composition.
