Robert Morris

Robert Morris studied engineering at the University of Kansas and art at the Kansas City Art Institute and the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. He then studied philosophy at Reed College in Oregon and art history at Hunter College in New York from 1962 to 1963. He was involved with improvisational theatre and film. His work with modern dance, which explored the effects of gravity on the human body, later had an important influence on his sculpture. In 1966 Morris began writing for the magazine Artforum, publishing two important articles on contemporary sculpture – “Notes on Sculpture” and “Anti-form."
