Definition: The element in an artwork that is treated in such a way as to stress its importance and make it stand out.

Balance
Balance
Definition: Visual balance is a principle of design whereby the elements of design are arranged to create an effect of stability. The positioning of the elements according to their size, colour, texture and details creates visual balance, and that balance can be symmetrical or asymmetrical.

Edition of Prints
Definition: A print is a shape or mark made from a block or plate or other object that is covered with wet colour (usually ink) and then pressed onto a flat surface, such as paper or textile. Most prints can be reproduced over and over again by re-inking the printing block or plate. The number of times the image is reproduced is it?s edition. For example if the image was reproduced 10 times, the artist would have created an edition of 10 prints.

Negative space
Definition: Negative space is the areas around or between depicted elements or forms; it is the opposite of positive space.

Positive Space
Definition: Positive space is the area in an artwork that is occupied by elements or forms; it is the opposite of Negative space.

Symbols
Definition: Visual indicators which have gained wide acceptance as representing something beyond themselves, usually an abstract idea.
