Ensure that each student chooses a word/phrase that contributes to the class theme. For example, a sentence claiming a green space, an ode to the beauty of the city?s architecture, or even a newspaper article that raises concerns for the city?s residents (layoffs, construction, municipal issues...), etc. Students will place the word/phrase somewhere on the poster.

Have students sketch out an image that complements the word/phrase in pencil on large paper or Bristol board. Students should use a variety of elements of design in repeating patterns to emphasize the message they wish to communicate.

Ask students to fill in the paper with cut images and colour paint.

Have students write out, in a short paragraph, how the image contributes to the understanding of the word/phrase.
