A cultural portrait: Grade 9-12
Summary
After exploring a selection of works from the NGC collection that focus on certain aspects of the social history of the African diaspora, students will make a self-portrait that explores their heritage and emphasizes their own unique cultural identity.
Theory:
Students will manipulate and organize elements of design such as form, shape, texture, and space to create mood, character and personality.
Creation:
Students will use with confidence, experiences from their personal, social, cultural environments as a basis for visual expression.
Analysis:
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between art and cultural identity.
