Drawing With Light

Grade K-3

Surprising Sun Prints:
After exploring the Drawing with Light site, students are asked to explore the properties of light. Using photosensitive paper and everyday objects, the students will learn the art of sun printing. While being introduced to composition and concepts of photography, they will produce striking sun prints.

Shadow Chasers!:
After exploring the Drawing with Light site, the students are encouraged to investigate the properties of light. They will learn that light interacts differently with different materials and that shadows are a property of light. They well then explore the effects of shadow and light through the lens of a camera.

The Camera Obscura:
After exploring the Drawing with Light site, the students are encouraged to investigate the properties of light. In this lesson plan, the students will be introduced to the science of light and will learn its significance as they construct a camera obscura.

Grade 9-12

Make a Pinhole Camera:
After exploring the Drawing with Light site, the students are encouraged to investigate the properties of light. By constructing and using a pinhole camera, one of the simplest photographic devices, the students will discover the ability of light to project images. Using the device, they will take a series of photographs in which they explore the basic concepts of photography.
