The nylon-covered bungee cord, which the artist has dyed black to look like a line, is stretched over 12 metres through space. By using space as a tangible element, Sandback's work presents the volume of sculpture without the mass traditionally associated with this art form. The lightness of touch gives it the quality of a drawing.
