An article about the National Gallery of Canada?s exhibition Canadian Painting in the Thirties. Author Roslyn Nudell describes how Assistant Curator of Post-Confederation Art Charles Hill organized the exhibition, interviewing the artists and their associates about the different art societies, attitudes and influences on their work, and writing the catalogue. Michael Pantazzi, Head of Education Services, planned and prepared courses, films, tours and talks in conjunction with the exhibition. Talks include ?Art in the Thirties: The Montreal Scene,? given by Phillip Surrey, and ?The West Coast Ambience of Canadian Art,? given by Jack Shadbolt, who knew Emily Carr. Films include The World of David Milne, Varley, Between the Two Wars, Convicted, Bethune, which features Paraskeva Clark, and Spanish Earth, featuring Ernest Hemingway.
