A review of the exhibition catalogue Canadian Painting in the Thirties, written by Charles Hill and published by the National Gallery of Canada. Reviewer Dale Estey advises readers that this book would appeal more to artists and art historians than to the general public. She laments the shortage of colour reproductions, but praises the technical quality of the black and white images. Estey notes several of the artists included in the catalogue, such as Emily Carr, Jack Humphrey, Goodridge Roberts, L. L. FitzGerald and Paraskeva Clark, as well as the Group of Seven. She has high praise, in particular, for Humphrey?s Charlotte and Clark?s Self-Portrait.
