A review by Kay Kritzwiser of an exhibition of French painting held at the Detroit Institute of Arts, which the author compares briefly to the National Gallery of Canada?s Canadian Painting in the Thirties. As with the Detroit show, the Canadian paintings demonstrate that artists living in such turbulent times as The Depression did not always depict social realities in their works.
